New York City, the ultimate crossroads of the world, is served by a bustling network of airports that keep the city moving. In 2023, these airports boarded a combined 73.8 million passenger boardings, reflecting a 13% increase over 2022, according to data from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The Big Three

NYC’s three major airports dominate the region’s air traffic and cater to travellers from all walks of life:

  • JFK – John F. Kennedy International Airport: As the largest of NYC’s airports, JFK saw 30.8 million passenger enplanements in 2023, up from 27.2 million in 2022. Known for its extensive international connections, JFK is a gateway to the world.
  • EWR – Newark Liberty International Airport: Located across the Hudson River in New Jersey, EWR boarded 24.6 million passengers in 2023, rising from 21.8 million the year before. It’s a popular choice for both domestic and international travel.
  • LGA – LaGuardia Airport: Famous for its convenient location closer to Manhattan, LGA boarded 16.2 million passengers in 2023, a jump from 14.4 million in 2022. With its ongoing modernization, LaGuardia is more accessible and efficient than ever.
