About Gander

That legacy of welcome and hospitality reached its most profound and moving expression on September 11, 2001, when 38 commercial aircraft carrying nearly 6,600 passengers were diverted to Gander following the terrorist attacks on the United States, and the town's population of just 10,000 opened their homes, schools, churches, and hearts to care for stranded travellers from dozens of countries for five extraordinary days — a story of compassion immortalized in the beloved Broadway musical Come From Away, which brought Gander's generosity to audiences around the world and transformed the town into a global symbol of human kindness.
